The Laulie Cakes shop is a small one room bakery but what it lacks in size it makes up for in wonderful scent and product. The bakery items look absolutely delicious and the prices are reasonable. A chalkboard on the wall, written in pink, lists all their flavors. One thing to note, if you want to order a cake, order at least one week in advance.
We used Laulie Cakes to make specialty cookies for my son's first birthday. I explained my unusual request (the fruits from "Hey Bear" videos) and they were so enthusiastic! And the cookies were AMAZING! Exactly what we asked for. We don't have a single one left over! What a perfect addition to the party.
This Christmas was our first experience with Laulie Cakes. They cheerfully accepted our order request despite unusual weather and hectic business. As you can see, they went above and beyond in their execution. Delightful delicious handmade dessert for less than you'd spend at a big-box or chain bakery. Enthusiastically recommend!
I emailed Laulie Cakes with a specific design for a graduation cake. I included a picture and listed the changes that I wanted. I was told it wouldn't be a problem and was not contacted after this. When I showed up to pick up the cake, I was very disappointed. I asked for the cake to say Congratulations instead it was misspelt and said "Congrat's" with an apostrophe and the "g" half wiped off. They could only fix the "g" before I left. I asked for gold and black detailing and received yellow. There were cracks and indents throughout with the backside appearing unfinished. The top of the graduation cap snapped in half during our party because it couldn't support the weight of their fondant tassel. I ended up having to disassemble the top, roll out the large piece of yellow fondant and make strands. From there, I super glued the two pieces of the top together so it would look okay throughout the remainder of my nephews party. This was the worse experience I have ever had with a bakery. For a cake that cost me $100, I expected the quality to match.
After many great reviews I decided to order my childs birthday cake with Laulie cakes, I never received any text nor email quote as promised. Luckily I pretty much hand wrote the conversation, attached it to the cake I wanted and emailed the bakery. Upon picking the cake up I was offered the wrong cake (glad I looked closely). My business wasn't in anyway shown to be appreciated. I didn't care for the location nor the cobblestone streets I had to put my tires on to get to this establishment. What amazed me was how much I had spent on a very tiny basic and previously frozen cake. Upon cutting the cake the party room started to fill with a horrible odor ;it was the CAKE! I sent an email to the bakery which went unread ,well.... then i called and was told to "hold on" while the young lady pulled and read what i sent . I really had to nicely stress that i didnt care about the email due to the fact that we both are on the phone. I did get half of my money back, I didn't appreciate the tone or the way the owner tried to game me up during the conversation, soo I was supposed to be happy to learn that "even" IF the cake was half done powdered eggs was used and therefore the cake was fine. If I wanted children and adults sick from a bad cake I could have saved myself around 75 dollars and made a dollar tree brand cake. I read another review mentioning "scraping" feosting from cakes. Please do not take a cake that isnt picked up and then try to pass it off on another customer if thats what you are doing. There is no hate in my heart when I highly advise against using this bakery for a memorable and public event . At least I was able to use the refund to go and purchase a fresh dierbergs custom cake that everyone could consume without the fear of contracting e coli from eating cake batter. Also the cake boxes are flimsy and don't fit , these are custom cakes and they are being served in 7-11 style donut boxes, they didn't secure the cake it did move off the plate, the cakes need to go in a secondary harder style box which I ended up cutting up and tapping to transport my child's cake in prior to knowing that the cake had failed everyone's taste test at the party .
